A passion for the industry
Luiten Food – Thomas Foods Europe, formerly Luiten Wild en Gevogelte, was founded in 1938 by Leen Luiten. ‘As a young man, my father used to go out on his bicycle,’ says Leo Luiten, who has handed over the reins to his son Lennert. ‘The huge bicycle basket attached to the front was packed with butter, cheese and eggs. Later, he also added chickens to his basket. That’s how he cycled to the market in The Hague several times a day.’
The second generation, Leo and his brother Aad Luiten, continued the business and developed it considerably. From an early age, they put their heart and soul into the business and expanded the trading activities to include import and distribution. Leo and Aad were true pioneers in the field of game meat imports. They were one of the first importers in Europe for many products. Such as ostrich from Africa and hare from Argentina. Thanks to their pioneering spirit, commitment and long-term vision, our company has seen great developments. They have provided the foundation upon which the third generation has further professionalised the family business. So now, three quarters of a century later, Luiten Food – Thomas Foods Europe has become an importer of beef, lamb, game, poultry, Ibérico pork, seafood and veggie & vegan products.
With Lennert Luiten & Jan Kunz as owners of Luiten Food – Thomas Foods Europe, and fellow board member Roald Heinsbroek, they form the current board of directors.
Lennert Luiten – Managing Director
Jan Kunz – Commercial Director
Roald Heinsbroek – Financial Director
They lead the company with passion and pride. Each with their own qualities, they complement and strengthen each other. Customer relations are very important, which is why the directors often visit customers and attend trade fairs. Together with the employees, Luiten Food – Thomas Foods Europe is always looking to broaden or expand its product range. Under the third generation, we have added seafood and vegan products to the selection!
